Over the past decades I have seen many different base materials used for transfers.  Some of them proved to be better than others, such as thin sticky back vinyl and waterslide transfers.  Vinyl is the choice of many restorers for its flexibility, easy installation and the ability to clear coat with 2 part urethane automotive clears.
